Why do I get a message "No input signal present" when trying to capture?

You might also get the message "ADM_DIO_ERROR_OCCURED, DIOerr:No input signal present" when activating one of the audio tracks in the capture window.

There can be several resons; try the following steps:

  1. Make sure that the deck/capture device is displayed in the Device Manager of your Operating System.
  2. Try swapping the 1394 cable that is between the deck/capture device and the computer system.
  3. Ensure that the deck is properly configured in the Avid settings:
    1. Go to the project window in your Avid application, and select the Settings Tab.
    2. Select Deck Configurations.
    3. If there are any current channels, delete them, by clicking in the green background of the channel, and selecting delete on the right side of the Deck Configuration panel.
    4. Select Add Channel, and configure the the channel for Firewire. The port setting will be OHCI(no Mojo) or Avid DNA(with a mojo).
    5. Do not AutoConfigure the channel when it prompts you to.
    6. After you have selected the channel, select Add Decks, and navigate through the manufacturer and model drop down menus to locate your specific deck. ( If you are using an unsupported deck, please select Generic as a make, and use the appropriate device type as a model. Please Note: Use of unsupported decks with an Avid system is not guaranteed to perform correctly.)
    7. After the deck and channel have been set up, select Apply and exit the Deck Configuration window.

  1. Ensure that there are no "background" virus software/popup blockers etc. running in the background. (Note: it is also recommended that this feature is always disabled when running the Avid application, installing it, and even downloading it as the antivirus software may conflict with the Avid processes).
  2. When upgrading to HD, make sure that you do a clean uninstall of the application:
Use the add/remove programs feature to remove the old Avid software from the system.
Go into drive\program files\ and delete the Avid "root" folder.
  3. You can try to manually register the DV buffers file by following these steps or downloading the file attachment at the bottom of the page. Once downloaded and unzipped, double-click the dvbuffers.bat file.
    Go to programfiles/commonfiles/avid.
Right click on Dvbuffers ( this should be listed as an ax file).
    Select open with.
    Browse to windows/system32.
    Select regsvr32.exe.
  4. If the problem persists, attempt to uninstall the HD application in the same manner you would with the old software ( see step 5.), however ensure that you also uninstall the DIO Runtime application from the add/remove programs folder.
  5. This message will occur when you try to capture from an HDV camera, eg. Sony HDR-FX1, and the project type is set to "1080i/50". You can solve this by setting the project to "1080i/50 HDV".
