This article describes methods for preparing appropriate QuickTime (.mov) HD clip files for Deko HD, ThunderHD, and DekoCast HD systems.
Question:
How do I render an HD clip suitable for import to Thunder, Deko, or DekoCast?
Answer:
The release of Deko version 4 introduces support for Apple's QuickTime format (".MOV") files for importing clips. The benefit of using the widely known QuickTime format includes a simplified workflow when sharing media across multiple departments and venues. QuickTime files are also capable of storing both fill and key, thereby reducing steps in the transfer and import of media. Thunder has been capable of importing QuickTime files directly since version 5.4. Currently, DekoCast HD does not import QuickTime .MOV files directly. We recommended using Thunder Browse software to import .MOV and convert to .MXF format, which DekoCast will import. Click here for those instructions.
Note: When importing .MOV files into Deko or Thunder, QuickTime must be installed on that system.
Export Guidelines from other applications
Media created in applications like Adobe AfterEffects, can be easily exported from the third party application using these settings as guidelines:
QuickTime .MOV format
Animation codec
Set Pixel Resolution, Frame Size and Rate to match the intended video standard used by the equipment
If no key: Millions of Colors
If key: Millions of Colors +
Audio: 48 kHz, 16-bit, uncompressed 2-channel stereo.
NOTE: Audio track must be present. If the clip has no audio, include a silent audio track using these settings.
Import to Deko HD or Thunder HD systems
Please follow the instruction for QuickTime import in the respective product user guides. QuickTime .MOV media can be imported directly into the Deko HD or Thunder HD model system. The QuickTime file is transcoded to .MXF format on import, creating separate fill and key files from the original .MOV which is still stored on your system. Be aware that the file size of the .MOV is much greater than the .MXF and can take up a considerable amount of space on your system. For better management of your media, you can choose to archive the .MOV to a server.
