How can I prevent certain resolutions from being available in the Avid editor?

Depending on your overall workflow, you may wish to prevent editors from using specific resolutions. There is a way to prevent certain resolutions from being available.

  1. Create a text file in Notepad called disabledres.txt
  2. List any resolutions you wish to disable as they appear in Media Creation settings

  3. Place this file in the Avid Media Composer folder:

    4. XP- C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composer
    Vista- C:\Program Files(x86)\Avid\Avid Media Composer

  4. Re-launch Avid

Note: this will only affect new user profiles created AFTER disabledres.txt has been created. Existing user profiles will still be able to create media at the disabled resolutions. Create new user profiles to ensure that the changes take effect.
