What can cause the following error when capturing in Avid?

Pyromaniac :: Arm Video Confidence - send message failed

Image

This error occurs if a deck (that was disconnected) was plugged to the computer, while the Avid software was still open.  The error could occur as soon as:

  • the Capture tool is opened
  • the V1 button in the Capture tool is highlighted

The same applies if an Avid breakout box (e.g. Adrenaline, Mojo) was involved.  To solve this, please follow the proper steps of turning on and turning off hardware with the Avid software.

From the Avid Help section "Turning on Equipment":

1394 (FireWire) decks and cameras that are connected to Avid input/output hardware must be turned on after the input/output hardware. Avid recommends the following sequence when turning on your equipment and starting your Avid editing application:

  1. Turn on the Avid editing system (the computer)
  2. Turn on the Avid input/output hardware (Avid AdrenalineMojoMojo SDI).
  3. Turn on the 1394 (FireWire) device.

*Although some devices appear to be turned off, they can still send data over the 1394 bus. Many support a standby mode. To ensure the device is off, disconnect the power cord.

  1. Start the Avid editing application.

From the Avid Help section "Turning Off Your Equipment":

When you are finished using your system and want to turn it off completely, do the following to avoid damaging your computer or media storage drives. Make sure to quit your Avid editing application before turning off your equipment.

Never remove external media drives from your Avid system when it is turned on. Shut down the computer and drives before you move drives.

To turn off your equipment:

  1. Quit your Avid editing application.  *Once Avid is shut, you can unplug and turn off the decks

  1. Shut down your computer.
  2. Turn off your speakers and monitors.
  3. Turn off each external media drive.
  4. Turn off all other hardware.
