How does the Avid 32 bit application benefit from a 64 bit Vista OS?
In a 32-bit Windows Operating System, applications can only address 2 GB of virtual address space. With the 3 GB switch, Symphony and Media Composer / News Cutter / XpressPro can address 2.5 and 2.7 GB of virtual address space respectively. On a 64-bit Windows OS (Vista-64 in our case), a 32-bit application (Symphony/MCA/NC) can address 4 GB of address space.

In concrete terms, a Symphony system will gain an extra 1.5 GB of address space! This means you have to fill up a lot more memory before you get memory errors. On average, there is around 700 MB of free space left after you finish launching Symphony on XP (32-bit) so we will be almost TRIPLING the amount of free space on Symphony after launch on Vista-64.
