Notification for the end of production of the Avid LANshare systems effective June 30, 2008
Dear Valued Avid Customer:
This letter provides notification for the end of production of the Avid LANshare systems effective June 30, 2008.
Why have we made this decision?
The overwhelming success of Unity MediaNetwork v5.0 introduced in April of 2007, which replaces both LANshare and prior MediaNetwork versions, offers customers all current capabilities in addition to better performance and scalability. As part of the overall transition, Avid has decided to discontinue the LANshare product.
Will this affect my current LANshare support contract?
Avid will continue to provide support for customers with valid Avid Services support contracts for 5 years from the official end of production, or until July 31, 2013, with last opportunity to purchase contracts with new product through July 31, 2008. Avid will endeavor to provide spare parts, where available, on an advance replacement basis for customers with a valid extended hardware warranty, provided that the part needing replacement is less than 5 years old. In other cases, a “return to factory” exchange/repair policy will be employed when possible.
What upgrade path will Avid provide?
Avid currently provides a preferential upgrade path for any previous LANshare or MediaNetwork version, offering substantial trade-in credits toward new Unity MediaNetwork 5.x engines and add-on storage. Avid will remove all Avid LANshare LP products from the US avid.com effective July 31, 2008.
